Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how [LEGAL ENTITY NAME] ("we", "us", "GatherMate") collects, uses, and shares personal data when you use the GatherMate mobile app and website (the "Service"). We are the data controller for this processing.

GatherMate is operated from Norway and complies with the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Norwegian Personal Data Act.

1. Data we collect

• Account data: email address and username (when you register).
• Location data: your device's approximate or precise location, used to show foraging spots near you and to attach a location to spots you submit. You can control location access in your device settings.
• User content: foraging spots you create (title, description, plant type, coordinates, optional photo), and reports you file on other spots.
• Purchase data: subscription status and transaction identifiers, processed through Google Play and RevenueCat. We never receive your full card details.
• Advertising & device data: for users shown ads, an advertising identifier and limited device/usage data, processed by Google AdMob (see §4).
• Diagnostic data: basic logs needed to operate and debug the Service.

2. How we use your data

• Provide and operate the Service (show and submit spots, manage your account).
• Process premium subscriptions and apply your entitlements.
• Show ads to non-premium users (subject to your consent where required).
• Moderate content, prevent abuse, and keep the community safe.
• Communicate with you about the Service.
• Comply with legal obligations.

3. Legal bases (GDPR)

• Contract: creating/managing your account and providing premium features.
• Consent: precise location access and personalized advertising. You can withdraw consent at any time (device settings; in-app "Ad privacy settings").
• Legitimate interests: securing the Service, moderation, and preventing abuse, balanced against your rights.
• Legal obligation: where we must retain or disclose data by law.

4. Advertising

Non-premium users are shown ads via Google AdMob. In the EEA/UK we use Google's consent mechanism (UMP) to ask whether you allow personalized ads. If you decline, you'll see non-personalized ads. You can change this any time via Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy settings. Premium members see no ads. See Google's policies: policies.google.com/technologies/ads

5. Sharing & processors

We share data only with service providers that process it on our behalf:

Some processors operate outside the EEA (e.g. the United States). Where they do, transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. We do not sell your personal data.

6. Public content

Spots you submit become publicly visible on the map to other users once active. Don't include personal information in a spot you wouldn't want public.

7. Retention

We keep account and content data for as long as your account is active. Spots are soft-deleted (hidden) and may be retained for moderation and abuse-prevention for a limited period before permanent deletion. You can request deletion (see §8).

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you may request to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, and object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact support@gathermate.no. You may also lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet, datatilsynet.no).

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under that age.

10. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, but no system is completely secure.

11. Changes

We may update this policy and will post the new version here with a revised date.
